Thank you, Karen. Searching the web after all this time and still your explanation is the only one that makes any sense. You saved a crying little boy's day.

WOW!!! Why haven't I searched for this before! It would have saved some outfits!! This was easy and quick! Thanks so much!

My son's tie also had two little holes on either side that slipped right onto the two corners of the plastic clip that gave this fix more support and "crispness".

Thanks again Karen.

I have to admit I dont quite follow Karen's response. What is meant by "fold lines"? I have several messy creases at the center of the tie but cant see an inverted triangle.

This will be hard to describe by typing so bear with me! Looking at the front of the tie as if it was being worn by someone else & using "fold lines" as guides position the tie so the inverted triangle (created by folds) is against the front of the plastic triangle of clip piece. On my son's tie that means the widest part of tie is on the left side & narrow (or back piece) is on Right side.
Next, bring end of narrow part of tie around the back of clip piece being sure it stays on same 1/2 of clip piece. Loop it back over top part of triangle clip piece & tuck under front part of tie. Bring through so it won't slip back. Now do the same thing with the other side. Be sure the wide part of tie is in front of the narrow part as you tuck under the knot. Wiggle and adjust to get the knot tight. You may need to tuck the corners a bit. Practice makes perfect. Hot glue, safety pin or sew the back spot where the "washer with teeth" & peg would have been. Hope this helps!
