Thinkpad 600 error code 192, doesn't start up?

http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=12813

Explains about my problem however.

My friend has this laptop, it gives error 192
dev 001
err 96
fru3810

On that link he explains that changiung the cmos battery could possibly solve this problem. I can't actually feel air coming from the side of it when it is on, is it possbily the fan is broken, or will changing the cmos battery fix the problem? If it is the fan how hard is it to change?

Awesome post. Worked like a charm on my stink600. Thanks!

Had the same problem.
Replacing the back-up battery didn't help. So I opened up the Thinkpad, removed the keyboard assy, the fan assy and cleaned the fan (totally filled with dust) ---> problem solved.

I have about 18 of these thinkpad 600. Currently, I have 6 of them with the 192 error. On pretty much all of them I have had to replace the battery. CMos Battery that is. You do need to buy the 2025 not the 32 like stated above. I know that because I already had some of the 32's and I tried them and they didn't work. I figured they look the same and I had some of those so why not try them. Anyways... These 6 laptops have the 192 error and I have tried good batterys and the error is such a pain. I really wonder if the fan or something on the board is the issue. SUCK.. If anyone has actually fixed the fan or anything other then the battery it would be awesome if they could help me figure this one out. THanks

I had the same error code on the same model Thinkpad. When the CMOS battery dies the computer spits out a couple different error messages, including error code 192. Changing the CMOS battery fixed the problem for me. The battery is under a removable plate on the bottom of the laptop. The factory battery is soldered to two wires that run to a small white adapter that then connects to the motherboard. This is what I did:

1. Pull the white adapter from it's recepticle on the motherboard

2. Note which colored wire goes to which side of the battery, then use wire snippers to cut off the old battery where it's soldered

3. Cut some shielding off of the free end of the wires

4. I bought a replacement battery from Wal-Mart for $2. I believe the battery number is CR2032

5. I then held the now bare ends of the wires on the opposite sides of the new battery and rapped plumbers tape around the battery to keep the wires from moving. (Make sure your polarity is correct before you get to far here!!)

6. Plug the white adapter back in to it's recepticle on the motherboard.

7. Restart the computer and enter BIOS to make sure the computer is set up correctly.

Good luck!!
