Re: GS comment (January 2014)

Very good point! The Farnell part number I listed (148894) is only rated to 250 VDC. AC mains has a peak voltage about 325 V, so your electrician is quite right, 1781894 is a better option. Actually a cheaper one at time of writing is Farnell # 2395802 (63p/unit).

Please consider this future readers!

Saying that, I've been running the dehumidifier with the under-spec part for about 20 months with no problems so I'm not too worried about it popping now. But next time I make an order it will include the correct part.

Hi I have a dem 10 my problem is when it is switched on the fan runs for a few minutes then it turns off if I turn the knob down until I hear it click off and turn the knob back to constant the fan comes back on for another few minutes while this is working like this I don't hear the compressor coming on at all I rescued this from a skip thinking it needed a clean but it seems more terminal!! does anyone else have these symptoms??

DEM 10 not running - no fan or compressor.
When powered up all that is operating is the red water full light. Any thoughts?

thanks for info in this thread

My Delonghi stopped condensing before Xmas. I followed the advice given regards replacing the capacitor and it now works. I replaced the capacitor with the one from Farnell (part number 148894) -I ordered it through a local electrical components company to save on the delivery. IT cost me £2 and with the father in-laws help desoldered old capacitor and resolver the new one - very easy to do.

a delonghi agent wanted £65 for a replacement circuit board.

Anyway thanks once again for the advice given

Hi,

Regarding the Farnell part number quoted by Icn in March 2013. We collected one today and as our soldering iron was not up to it we had an electrician to solder it in. Unfortunately it was the wrong one. It was DC instead of AC, I think he said… We took it back and had it replaced with one the electrician recommended which was part number 1781894 (Class X2) I think he said that the other one could cause it to explode!

Hello

My Dem 10 has been working for approximately 2 years. Last week it stopped operating and has the low temperature pause light on constantly now and nothing appears to be operating. The room temperature has not altered so it cannot have stopped due to low temperature. I have opened it up and cleaned it of all the dust but this made no effect.

Any advice?

Yet another successful repair thanks very much robernd - saving me now £150 - that's how much they've gone up. Got the capacitor from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390565310072?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 - £2.50 incl postage. Thanks to Bender also for his excellent dismantling advice. Very professional!

So just to clarify - the capacitor replacement is for the orange light issue, or for fan running but no water being collected?

Mine has just started showing orange light all the time after 3 years of daily use...

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Thanks a million, robernd, for the blown capacitor tip. You saved me (too) 100 quid. Thanks to bender also for tip on dismantling. My only real difficulty was squeezing the contents back into the case!

It really worked as promised. Brilliant!

I had trouble getting the case off to get inside the unit. There are two screws hidden behind the carry handle, which you can see when the handle is in the up position. You can get a screw driver to them when the carry handle is between up and down position. I suppose a seasoned engineer would see that before someone like me. There are some grooves in the case to allow a screw driver to get in this position.

Picked up one of these units to save it from the skip. robernd was exactly right - blown C1. Replaced with a cap from Farnell (part number 148894) for 80p and now collecting water again. Cheers all.

Paul, this is how you separate the two halves of the case:
Remove the water tank.
Unscrew the drain plug on the back.
Unscrew two 10 mm c/s screws under the handle, which attach the control switch to the back of the m/c (don’t try to take the switch off yet).
Remove six screws holding the two halves of the case together (12 mm round cross head)
- Two on the top of the m/c, hidden at the base of the handle.
- Two on the back of the m/c about half way down.
- One on each side near the base of the m/c, in the slot between the two halves.

The two halves will now pull apart and you can detach the control switch from the back of the m/c (the wires from the switch run to the front half of the m/c).

Hello, my machine isn't working, but I can't even get it open to have a look :(
I've taken out all the screws and the vertical side joints are now giving a little, but not completely coming apart - help! Can someone please detail how to open up the unit. Thanks, PE

Yep, I had same problem. Followed instructions to replace capacitor. Hey presto! Working again - saved myself lots of money. Feel proud that my amateur electronics effort worked.

just to add my thanks. fixed it with the little yellow box and a cheap soldering iron off ebay. all done for less than a tenner. well impressed.

Mine had the same problem, after checking everthing else i found that is was the PCB board at fault- it was not switching on the condenser motor. easy to source on the net at about £31.00

What a great tip about the capacitor Jonboy! Was going to buy a new unit but thanks to you the old one is working just fine now, even with my shoddy solder-work!! Bought a capacitor off ebay and a cheap soldering iron...job done!

My DEM10 had the same problem - fan working but no water being collected. I read the post by robernd on this page and gave it a go - took the unit apart, found the board (it's on the right hand side half way up), found the big yellow capacitor and bought one to replace it - 1uF, 275VAC, with 22.5mm between the pins. I've never replaced a component like that before but it was relatively easy to desolder the old capacitor and solder the new one after watching some guides on youtube. Put it all back together and switched it on - it sounds like a fridge again and after 10 mins has collected some water.

New Delonghi DEM10 - £96
Capacitor - 69p
robernd - my hat is off to you sir.

Bought the DEM 10 exactly a week ago. Been on 'constant' with no problems until yesterday, when the 'frost' light is now regularly coming on, which then allows the fan to continue running but alternates on/off of the compressor. Temperature in the room is 16 Deg C minimum.

Any way of adjusting the factory-setting of the frost setting down, so that this feature doesn't come on until it is actually very cold in the room?

Hi,
I have two of theses devices. Both had the same mistake within two month.

The reason is the capacitor C1 on the electronic board which lost capacity. You find the electronic board in the upper region under a white lid. The capacitor is the big yellow part besides two black relais. It's capacity is 1 uF and it is made for 275 VAC. If you exchange the capacitor the dehumidifier will probably work.
!!! CAUTION !!! The electronic circuit is not isolated from the line voltage (230 VAC). Remove the power plug before opening the dehumidifier. Be careful of the voltage which the capacitors of the board have even after switching it off.

Explanation:
The operating voltage of the electronics ist generated by a voltage devider. The capacitor is part of this devider. In my case the capacitor had a capacity of only 0.3 uF instead of 1.0 uF. That is the operationg voltage for the relais breakes down from more than 20 V to 10 V. If blower and compressor are switched off the voltage is 20 V. During the switch-on procedure first the blower relay is activated. The voltage goes down to 15 V, and the second relay for the compressor will never switch on.
