error codes on my Hotpoint Dishwasher model BFI 680?

Everytime I start my dishwasher it runs for approx. 5 minutes then beeps once, drains and stops. The lights for 'Rapid' and 'Auto Duo Wash' flash on and off. The user manual gives no explanation for these error codes. Can anyone give any guidance as to what these error codes mean?
Thanks.

I had the same issue with lights 4 and 5 flashing and the dishwasher would not drain. After doing all the obvious things, cleaning the filter etc. I took the dishwasher out and placed on its side. Undid the 6 screws, three front three back of the bottom plate. You can then see the pump where the outlet hose is attached. I undid the one screw holding the top part of the pump, took the drain hose off the pump so I could twist and remove the top half of the pump. Then by using a screwdriver I tried to move the pump rotas which were jammed with small blue plastic parts from the cutlery basket which has started to break up. Ones removed and the rotas were moving freely I reassembled and all is now working great again.

I have a similar problem but the error lights eco and pre only seem to flash when using the normal wash programme so can it still be the pump I have thoroughly cleaned the filter but without any success

Fantastic! I have a DWM55 and this worked a treat. I had lights 3 and 4 flashing. Took the bottom plate off and in the pump was a lemon pip and a piece of chicken bone. machine works fine now and no repair bills. Thanks very much Martin. Andy

Our machine had LEDs 4 & 5 flashing which pointed to a problem with the water inlet. This was confirmed by the Hotpoint helpdesk. However I have just fixed the fault and it was a piece of lolly stick stuck in the outlet pump. All working fine now. The pump was easy to get to, remove the 6 screws for the bottom plate (3 at front, 3 at back) and you can easily identify the pump as it has the waste pipe attached to it. It felt warm to the touch so had all the symptoms of a jammed electric motor. I removed it (one screw) and turned it using a screwdriver and a piece of lollypop stick came out.

Good luck

Fault Indicator Fault Description
Wash indicator lights 4 + 5 (fast + pre) flashing rapidly. No water. Most likely you have forgotten to switch the water to the dishwasher on.
Wash indicator lights 3 + 5 (eco + pre) flashing rapidly. Filter is clogged. Pull out the filter and clean it.
Wash indicator lights 4 + 6 (fast + delicate) flashing rapidly. Heating element has blown. Machine will likely start a wash and then cut out when it needs hot water and finds the element not working.
Runs for approx. 3 minutes and then stops. Lights 3 + 4 (eco and fast) flash. Probably caused by being plumbed into a hot rather than cold water supply. The incoming water is hotter than required for the wash which causes the machine to cut out. Plumbing the machine into a cold water supply will fix the problem with no apparent long term problems.

A helpful reader has informed me that this fault code can also be caused by the arm of a Lego man getting past the filter and lodging itself in the inside the machine (not sure where it got stuck). Looks like Lego men are incompatible with dishwashers.

Light 3 (eco) flashes. Water is present in the flood catching tray at the bottom which usually indicates that there is a leak somewhere. More often than not this is just a pipe with a poor fitting and simply tightening the clip is enough to stop the leak. Our machine had a very slow leak from one pipe (not enough to trigger the alarm) which was fixed in this way. The leak is detected by a small float switch located in the flood catch tray.

Undo 4 screws on the metal plate under the dishwasher 3 at the front 1 at the back, this reveals The pump check the seals are in place on the waste pump.

A reader has pointed out that these error codes also seem to work for the Hotpoint DWF60.

Error Code Rapid (led5) & Auto duo (led7) Means that the heating circuit is not functioning . Possible Heater is open circuit Or the relay on control card is if faulty !
