If you are looking for a data recovery option, I can highly recommened try http://recoverfab.com
I had a SD card with nearly 200 photos of my nieces wedding on it. Towards the end of the wedding day, my camera threw me a card error message.
I think there was a problem with the little processor in the card. Usually its possible to recover photos on a card that is just corrupted with software. But this one was dead.
It was completely deceased, I tried it in other cameras, and my pc and it wasn't recognised. I just got a message telling me to format it. I tried to but that gave me an error message too.
After searching the net and finding various data recovery specialists I luckily came across the recoverfab service.
Some of the other services wanted to charge me an astronomical amount of money and even a fee to inspect the card.
I emailed Recoverfab which is based in Germany and asked the owner if he would be able to help.
He told me that it wouldn't be a problem to get the photos for me. I just had to send off the card and he would get back to me with a preview of what he had recovered.
It took 5 days via Royal Mail to get to Germany fro UK. Within 24 hrs I was sent a preview page of the recovered images. The best part was that if I didn't need or want the files I didn't need to pay.
The fees are reasonable and there are discounts available.
The full size photos can be delivered via ftp or CD.
It is definitely worth looking at if your photos are important to you.
Good luck

ive just had the same problem, i would reformat it right now but i really cant afford to lose all my files. i did have backup of everything but changing computers lost me my backup and typically, it decided to go corrupt now. Im gonna try the freezer idea, but im doubtful....and those sd formatting programs you can download, will they delete the memory as well? thing is, id rather have no sd card at all than delete everything ive got saved on there...

Please note that many card types are used today but they remain the most popular over most others are Micro SD cards. Micro SD cards can be reformatted in many domestic cameras that take SD or Micro SD with an adapter. PLEASE ALSO NOTE that a ""Locked Micro SD card is not the same as a corrupted Micro SD card and that is repaired using the file shunt method or the 1.V battery and 2 wire method.
People get confused between corrupted cards and locked cards.

Yes, I do the same stupid thing. I've tried to repair a MicroSD card for almost a day long with many tools like SD Formatter 3.0 (http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/), TestDisk and PhotoRec (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download) and others without success. Finally, before pulling the SD card to the trash I tried scraping the dump contacts. Do it carefully. Then I could format it from windows explorer. All data were lost, of course.

Hi Awais,

I know it is very basic but i have seen many people have the card write protected problem because of the lock on the SD Adaptor. There is a small plastic switch on the adapter which slides up and down. At times when you insert the card in the reader the switch slides to the down position thus locking the card. Just check that and make sure it is in the Up position to see if you can write to the card.

How about a micro SD card that physically "snapped"? Someone was trying to replace the battery in my phone and accidentally ejected the SD card, then closed the cell phone casing on it. I looks bent, and I can see a hairline crack on one side. Do you think I could take it anywhere and get someone to read it/get the info off of it?

Thanks!

Solution found: I used SDformatter (http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/) to repair a corrupted 8gb micrp SD card (with SD adapter) by reformatting it on my laptop using SDformatter sofware. The card was not recognised on my camera or computer prior to this, but now works fine. :-)

i too have the same problem with the micro sd card
one way to try it out is by using the card in the original intended device and formatting as available in it. this can be done by inserting it into the device by checking through the available options.

I have a 2GB Kingston Micro SD and while playing songs on my phone, it just stopped and it says that the memory card is corrupted. it doesn't show up in windows anymore.

I also have an 8GB flash drive and while copying some files to it, it just stopped and same problem i got now. when inserted on usb ports, it will only show as "Removable Drive" in explorer but when you try to open the drive, it will say "Please insert disk".

Yeah, try putting it in a digital camera or something. It worked for me - (Thanks Thann).

I had a problem with a 2G Trend Micro Mini SD card (I know, "Trend Micro"?, but it came with my phone). It's a crappy card and it was shot to hell, but it even got to the point where I couldn't even format it anymore UNLESS it was FAT format, but I needed FAT32.

So, I put it into my old digital camera and connected it to my computer, it showed as a drive again, and I was able to format it in FAT32 and it shows on my MDA again! As if I didn't need to tell anyone, NEVER PUT IRREPLACEABLE DATA on an SD card.

If you have a digital camera that accepts SD cards (and you also have a MicroSD to SD converter) you can try placing the card into a digital camera and using the camera's format function. I have repaired many a card using this method. The other advice I can give you is to NEVER use a Windows PC to format a flash memory device. I have seen arguments from both sides on this issue, but in my experience, I have seen it ruin several cards.
