dyson dc01 is not working properly ?

when my dyson dc01 is being used,it gives off a burning smell?

Switch the cleaner on and see if the cylindrical beater bar is rotating. If not the motor is going round and there is something stopping the beater bar rotating. The smell of burning comes from the belt (stationary if beater bar is stuck) around the motor shaft (rotating if motor running). I had this with the mother-in-law's DC01.
