how can I download pics from camera to pch aving followed all the instructions the camera is not recognised by the computer

Have you installed ACDSee? This software came with my Pentax Optio L40 and, once installed, recognised my camera when I used the USB cable to connect it. My PC runs XP SP2.

If it came with a driver disc you need to install that then the PC should recognise it.
Or you could take the memory card out of the camera and plug it into a card reader.
