We had the same problem it was due to the top deing distorted when screwed up to the work surface this had lifted the catch and the latch wasn't locating correctly. I unscrewed the top from the work surface and it then closed oOK

latch might be in the locked position even with it open.put something in latch an pull it towards you to put it back into the unlock position.it will click if you reset it
