How can I access the wiring in my Dyson DC04?

My power cord has been cut near to where is goes into the actual machine. If I could gain access into the handle, I'd be able to cut off the damaged part and reattach the good part of the cord.

But how do I get in??

Thanks, both Steve W and Steve D. Dyson refused to tell me how to take off the switch (health and safety!) and then I found this website and your answers. It took me about 3 hours in all! I tried every bit of thin strong metal I had but got nowhere. I finally resorted to drilling a hole (it took 3 goes in fact!) in the side of the casing as suggested so I could push in the plastic retainer and it worked! I've just finished re-wiring it and it now works perfectly. It's saved me a lot of money so thank you once again.

I needed to gain access to the wiring to the on/off switch on the Dyson DC04. I took SteveD's advice but was worried about breaking off the hook/sprung clip which prevents the button from coming out. So I removed the handle/pipe and carefully drilled a 6mm hole in the hoover upright body adjacent to the where I approximated the button hook/sprung clip would be, 15mm in and 10mm down from the switch mounting cylindrical mould. 'Spot on' the hook/sprung clip was there, I pushed it in with a screwdriver while carefully easing the button up with another screwdriver and it came out quite easily and without breaking the hook/sprung clip. This gave me access to the torx screw and the switch was removed and wiring repaired.

Hi, Take the complete cylinder off the front of machine ,then you will find in the top left hand corner a small compartment with a star screw ,take out this screw and you will find all your wiring is in there, hope this helps.

Its awkward. The cable goes into the machine under the on/off button. To get into this part you have to remove a screw and the cable, on/off button come away with the switch section. The problem is accessing the screw. Its under the button. You have to gently prise it out. If you look down the side of the button, the side against the body of the machine, you will see a little cut out in the plastic. If you can get some thin but stiff wire and push it down there you may be able to free the button. Theres a little hook shaped piece of plastic on the bottom of the button the locks into the body of the cleaner to prevent it springing out every time you switch on and off. Its that, that makes the job awkward. 9 times out of 10 you will break this little hook. I do these everyday, you can glue and melt it back together but it is fiddly, BE WARNED.
Once the button is out you'll see the screw, its a TORX screw, nothing is easy about a Dyson. Remove the screw and gently ease the cable upward will release that switch section of body.
Take note of how the cable gland is located and how the cable threads round the formers. When you replace the cable dont forget to thread it through the cable gland before you put it back together. Then its just a reversal of what you've just done. If you were lucky enough to get the button out without breaking it. It just pushes back in. I would suggest you give it rub round with sandpaper to smooth it off again as prising it out damages the sides slightly.
Have fun ?

I think the access is via a small plastic panel, which you see when you disconnect the wand? Its like that on the DC01 and DC07 anyway....however the screws are 'torx' type so you'll need the correct screwdriver.
