Ring CRC for parts for FC220 on 01483-77-6060. They have the retaining clips needed to hold the springs for the stainless steel roller

Many thanks to you two guys. My copier grabbed a wad of paper and grunted to a halt.I commited the cardinal sin of not ruffling up the paper first. I found 2 springs in the base and couldn't find where they went. I worked out pressure was required on the stainless rod. I followed your advice but found that the black lug was brittle and snapped when I eased the spring onto the roller. I made a new lug from a staple cutting it a bit and carefully screwing it under the big earthing screw. Caution, ensure it clears the green transistor.Hope it helps.

Andrew - I managed to fix our FC220 with a little dodge. Near the front (left-hand) end of the small spring there is a screw (fairly large head) with an earth tag attached to it. You need to twist one end of the small spring slightly, with a pair of pliers, so that the two end loops of the spring are at an angle of preferably about 90 degrees to each other. Unscrew the earth tag screw carefully. By stretching the small spring slightly you should be able to slide the forward end loop on to the screw and then replace the earth tag as well and then relace the screw. Then put the rear sping loop on the tiny lug which forms part of the short white plastic arm with a much bigger spring under it. With a bit of careful fiddling you can get the spring back into place so it runs over the small flanged plastic collar on the thin steel roller and holds down the roller so that the paper is pulled through. This has worked for us so it may be worth a try if it's the same problem - we find we have to have a stack of about 15-20 sheets in the feed tray for satisfactory working, but better that than throwing it in the skip. Not a solution, but we have the same problem and I've noticed that the thin steel roller is just resting in its brackets whereas it should be pressing down on the paper as it goes through. Then I noticed that a small spring was lying loose in the machine: I think this should loop over the small white plastic collar on the back end of the steel roller and hold it firmly in its brackets to apply the downward pressure on the paper. The bad news is that there is a tiny dark plastic lug on a bit of the mechanism to the left of the back end of the roller, and this has broken off. There is a corresponding lug to the left of the roller and that's still in place and the spring fits on to it ok. That's my diagnosis but I don't know if it's right and if it's fixable. It may need a tiny replacement part but no idea how you dismantle the machine to fit it. Hope it helps - Jeff Lee (UK)
