my visioneer 8700 usb scanner says it is in locked?

buy a different scanner. it might be the software but i went out and bought a cannon and after using it wondered why i stuggled along with the visioneer dinosaur for so many years!

They suggest uninstalling the scanner files and reinstalling with the drivers offered free on the website, about 9.3MB
I have not tried this yet, but have the same problem with a Visioneer 9000 One Touch scanner. I opened the scanner and concluded that the problem is in the sotware, it is not a mechanical failure.
