how do I mend an antique wedding veil?

tulle is very fine and soft and has several holes that need to be repaired. Thread seems too thick.

it is best to get this done proffessionally as stitching which is badly done can often put too much pressure on the rest of veil.
I am a free lance hand embroiderer and could repair your veil for you?

Yes, it is very fine, but there is hope, although it might not be exactly what you were hoping for. The best advice I can give is to add beading or an applique to "camoflage" the tear. First things first, be shure to file your nails and wash your hands before each time you handle your veil or gown. Dirt, oils and lotions can be transferred to your precious garments, only compounding the existing problem. Also, remove all of your jewelry (yes, the rock too) and zippered or embellished clothing that might snag delicate fabric. To make the repair process a little less tedious, lay the damaged tulle over a piece of wax paper and apply fabric glue to the edges of torn or cut area(s) to isolate the defect and allow to dry according to glue instructions. Now you have a more sturdy base on which to embellish as you choose. Yes, as the old saying goes, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." An illustration of the "rough patches" you'll encounter in the fabric of your married life and how best to respond to them.
