How can I change the power cord and cable for dyson dc04 zobster?

My Dyson DC04 was absolutely fantastic and never gave any problems till now. The Power cable gets knotted frequently and has worn off in many areas. Suddenly it stopped working and i think the problem is with the cord. Anyone had similar experience and can i also have tips on how to approach this problem.
