how to obtain sparefor my challenge xtreme pressure washer?

Hi, I have only had my challenge pressure washer for ten years. It has only been used 427 times for a mere 1200 hours and the wretched lance split. I am mortified and am going to complain. What's do you think are my chances of getting a free replacement?

my model ylq5321c=150a challenge washer only used twice and spray pipe split and damaged easily in other areas, so not fit for purpose. Argos should not sell them!!

seems they do split easy..... another fix done using 8mm copper pipe (central heating microbore pipe) - i drilled right through split section with 8mm long drill bit & inserted 8mm pipe - i had a former from brake pipe kit to seal nozzle end - pipe was a tight fit and had to be persuaded into place (i used oil to help force pipe into place)

just put a new seal in lance for mine - thought lance was split but decided to knock out 2 pins near front of lance & discovered lance comes apart revealing a short section with a seal inside....

Powerbase Extreme pressure washer bought from Homebase. After about 4 times of using this the motor started over heating and cutting out. Just beyond guarantee period so took it apart. Plastic cooling fan on the motor shaft has split and come off the shaft. Low grade injection moulding I'm afraid. Homebase rubbish for spares back up!!!! Can't seem to get spare fan blade anywhere. Any suggestions welcome.

I have a DW-1840BV which has been springing leaks recently, and can confirm that spares can be bought from Hilka - although they're sold as spares for RAC pressure washers. They have an order form which can be downloaded at http://www.hilka.co.uk/gfx/instructions/Hilka_Tools_spares_form.doc. The lance/"front half" of the wand is stock code QHPAVL and costs £10 inc P&P, and the trigger/"back half" of the wand is stock code QHPTHSG and costs £14 inc P&P. Bargain!

It's strange that everyone has the same issue with this Lance. I had the crack in same location on the Lance.

In the end I took the trigger gun handle apart and found that the lance extension that had failed (IE the part that links the trigger handle to the end piece you want to use - brush or lance) is actually the same type of attachment as the end attachments themselves, so I just bypassed the part altogether. Admittedly the gun is now about a foot shorter & I have to disassemble the handle each time I want to swap over to the brush , but at least it works!

I wish I'd found this forum a lot sooner. The lance on my Challenge Extreme also split at the embossed letters / pressure rating about a year ago.

Think I'll buy a Karcher instead this time. Saw Argos had started selling new branded Challenge Xtreme washers - won't touch them with a barge pole!

Thanks everyone for all your advice on how to get parts on here. If I can fix it for cheap I will, failing that I'll bin it and buy a new one.

I've had my Washer for a few years now, had a split in hose which I managed to replace with one from Halfords which at £14.99 was cheaper than a new washer, I have cleaned my driveway with once and got it out today to clean my bike now the first stage of the lance has has split and I'm having a bit of a job finding one so I have taken the first section off and put the second section directly on to the handle which seems to be fine

Just got my Challenger Extreme out to clean patio and guess what happened.

This is a replacement that Argos supplied to cover the very same thing that happened to the original.

I've just had the exact same problem!
Was bought last april, used once last year and stored in our shed, took it out today to do the patio and the lance has split - it exploded water and dirt all over me!
I phoned Argos customer service and asked for a replacement nozzle and they are sending one out.
My receipt is just out of the 12mth guarantee by 2 weeks but I said we bought in May (little white lie!) and gave the old catalogue number (740/2027) and store we bought it at and they are sending one out in the post.
So I suggest to anyone with the same prob to try this before you have to spend up to £20 on a new one!!

Hi, read through the reviews and took advice to go to the website you were saying about, order the part and waiting for it too arrive. In the meantime checked with them that this is the correct part and could I exchange if not and got this answer back.

"Any items ordered incorrectly would have to be returned at your cost and any delivery costs incurred by us would be charged or if paid you original delivery charge would be lost.

Same here, same problem. Washer has been stored in shed over the winter, and only been used last summer once. Went to start cleaning patio today and the lance has split! Only managed to clean half of it, so it looks silly now with one half clean and the other half grubby! Thanks for the comments on here, as don't really want to have to buy a whole new washer!

Add another split lance to this "FORUM". Bought mine last year used it twice loaned it out once went to use it last week guess what???? Going to take' Dave DEC '09' advice, if that doesn't work then like 'Justin July 2009' its Tesco motor insurance for me... by way of an answer on what to do!!!!!!! Forget cheap 'n' cheerful. Lesson learned.

I am almost sure - the Hilka Tools supply the replacement parts at half the cost of most other suppliers. You have to email for an Order Form, and then mail it. The High Pressure Lance is just £10 - they have a website - http://www.hilka.co.uk/products.php?sub=108

Hi guys just to let you all know to help fix challenge xtreme pressure washer nozzle/hoze & especially splitting lances of gun problems you have experienced,challenge went bust & never recovered but draper took on there remaining contracts in spares & replacements, they have renamed them under draper spares as (draper replacement lance for pressure washers 41401, 41402, 41403,41404, 42040) if you look up these models & replacements you will find replacements for your lances on your guns & other challenge xtreme parts can be found as well.

Add another to the list. First time using it today after the winter snow (only second time using it in its lifetime!!!) and the nozzle end of the lance has split!! Very angry. Have contacted sparesgiant today (non-office hours though) so hopefully will get replacement sent next week. Mr Reed did you get any satisfaction from Trading Standards at all?

Ring 01934525999 and ask for PBX Xtreme power washer spares. The handle is in 3 bits - handle which splits (6 screws and a bit of leverage) - first bit of lance with brass valve (brass valve comes off) - second bit of lance. I've just ordered the first bit of the lance for £3.60 inc p&p!!!! The second bit that I dont need is £11ish.

Same fault has happened to me twice with the Challenge Xtreme pressure washer from Argos. I called Customer Services yesterday and they are posting a new spray lance attachment to me direct. If it happens again they've said I'll be given a replacement made by a different manfacturer.

had mine over 2 years and used it half dozen times. I guess this always the risk when you buy budget.
It was good when it worked.
i doubt Argos will entertain a replacement lance with no reciept so i guess just will have to accept this.
Maybe take out Tesco car insurance as they give free Karcher pressure washer when you do.

And another!!!! Second time of use and the lance splits at the edge of the embossed number. This is what happens when a stylist designs something instead of an engineer. An engineer understands stress raisers and would NEVER have put the embossed numbers in the shaft.

Go into Argos and tell them this pressure washer has known faults with the lances and guns. If they refuse to replace the parts tell them you'll involve Trading Standards as the product they're selling is potentially dangerous. They'll either replace the missing part or the machine in its entirety.
