Volvo S80 02 none working sat nav!?

The sat nav screen that rises out of the top dash displays the message, The disc on the DVD player can not be read. Please check the disk.

The disc is a Volvo RTI Navtech 8673734 0150 DV-P2001E-2 DVD ROM Road and traffic information Volvo.

All of this info is taken from the disk. Regards Dave.

In your sat-nav D V D in the boot will be a disc, eject and push the button on the steering wheel, and the sat-nav will go down. been trying Stephen's advice, almost worked, but still no joy, also I drained the battery. Got 3 discs from a site, and same problem, I have a Garmin but would be nice to have the volvo one working, But some good advice, many thanks...... Jeff

I have a Auto V70 Sept 2007. My sat nav reverted to Km and a black screen colour each time I started a journey. I had to re-set each time because it would not save the settings. Following advice from Ron on this forum I inserted the key fob and pressed start without my foot on the brake pedal. This I presume is ignition II. The radio played without the engine running. With the Sat Nav still switched OFF I then moved the slide switch on the Sat Nav Unit to UNLOCK and ejected the disc. I re inserted the disc and then moved the slide switch back to LOCK. Then switched the Sat Nav ON re set my Settings and that appears to have worked. Less than two mins effort and saved a fortune. Thanks Ron and everyone else on this forum.

Hi guys, and many thanks for your ideas/suggestions - none of which worker, apart from removing the lead to the reader. Havne't now a satnav (but haven't had a working one for months) but at least the screen now stays down. Tom Tom here I come - & to Mr Volvo, I say "ya boo, and sucks to you - with big Swedish knobs on".

Hi guys, and whilst appreciative of all the info/suggestions, I tried them all - to no avail. In the end, the only thing that did work, was removing the lead from the Reader. I haven't now got a satnav (but I haven't had a working one for some considerable time) but at least the screen stays in the "down" position!!!

on my sat nav it said the usual "not able to read disc" you know the rest. i tried all the suggestions here and it still did not work. i thought look at the book.
the book says, eject the disc, then put it back in without anything to do with the ignition. i pushed the disc in gently as far as it would go THEN switched on the ignition to the radio setting, low & behold the map loaded. mine is 03 xc70.
hope this helps as it did my head in all day.

Central services repaired my 2002 XC70's RTI system today. I'm very pleased! saved a load of money over an oem replacement. Initially, it was thought to be the motor drive and the laser, but the RTI wouldn't display the mileage or to route. A quick 10 mins replacement of the motherboard & I'm on my way.....in the right direction. My wife's favourite saying of " not that right, I meant the other right". is now a thing of the past. Thank you Marcel.

I have the same problem on my 54 xc70. To get the screen to go down remove the 10amp fuse to the motor, mine is in the panel to the right of the instrument panel.

I have the same with my S60 2002, I had various very expensive quotes to replace. I now have a Tom Tom live unit for £80 from ebay; it works very well, the extra bean bag mount I bought fits well into the dial recess and it has many more functions that the volvo unit. Enjoy.

to lower your screen when the reader is not working remove the connector from the back of the player - it wont fix the reader but at least you wont have the screen displaying error message while you are driving round - mine is a 2006 S80 with same issues player has stopped reading the disc Disc not recognised

I had the same problem, this is what I did.
Switch the ignition to II, eject the disc, remove the key. Wait 2 minutes, switch the key to II, insert the disc. Mine started working from then and is still working. I suppose its like rebooting a computer.

Good luck

Sad, I took my '04 V70R in for broken window block (motor working, window off track). When they told me motor was burned out (a lie). I went to pick up the car to take it somewhere more reliable and less expensive for out of warrantee repair I noticed that the motor now no longer worked and the NAV didn't either!!! I questioned them but they acted like I didn't even know my own car. I know things can just happen, but really makes you wonder!!!

I have to report the same issue with a 56 xc70 1 month out of warranty and sat nav packs up . Volvo have offered 60% contribution. There is clearly a problem with this unit.
Is there a manual eject on the unit as the disc will not release?

I have a C70 and we have the same problem .. the day after the car was out of warranty the Sat nav stopped working was told reader broken .. would cost £1,000 to repair .. volvo offered to pay £500 as good will gesture. I went away on holiday and after a few weeks rang volvo and they withdrew the offer and said a) I must now pay £990 and b) maybe they could not get the part anyway.
This is an absolute scandal .. WE paid over £2,000 for this Satnav and now it is useless .. we should all co-ordinate our efforts, and shame volvo into sorting this out!

I have exactly the same problem. Volvo dealer and Volvo customer service offered only to replace the unit saying it was faulty at a cost of just under £800. Car and unit are only 3 1/2 years old. Obviously it sounds like there is a inherant problem with the unit which Volvo do not want to accept. I am going to take it further with Volvo.

hi jane, your satnav will not go down till it read the disc. i had exactly the same problem. if u read your manual it tells u onthe how to replace the disk. put your key in the ignition and put it on the second turn and then take your disc out and put it back in and then jus take the ignition key out.give few minutes and put the ignition key back in to 2 turn and wait for the sat nav to adjust itself. i did the same and my sat nav started working. once it starts working it will shut down when u do so . i hope it helps everyone as it worked for me. thanx

We have a 2002 and that's the same ... I wonder is Volvo going to sort it out??? Can anyone at all help? Also, do you know if it's possible to lower the screen which arises from the dashboard when you turn on the engine? It seems impossible to swtich it off whilst the car is in motion. Would appreciate your input. thanks,

Jane

i have an 2006 s80 and the exact problem? seems to me that the player lens is dirty although the seller of the car did do a disc clean before i collected it, but that didn't help, i am going to try and use a proper dvd cleaner as i know my disc have no sctraches on them, if that doesn't work unfortunatly i have to accept that it may be a faulty dvd player!
