My dyson DC04 is getting hot?

My dyson dc04 is getting very hot and there is an overheating type smell coming from it. The motor works fine and it is picking up ok (I have just cleaned the filter).

The heat appears to b coming from the casing where the motor is.

Any ideas?

I'm on here for exactly the same problem, I have checked the filters and washed them.
I even removed the bottom lifetime filter, that wasnt very dirty either.
So I am assuming its now down to the bushes on their way out.
I am just about to look for the correct way to strip and replace the motor brushes, thats assuming you can obtain them?

There's not much in a vacuum cleaner that can get hot apart from the motor - so the heat is more than probably coming from the motor and it may be the motor brushes begining to fail - I assume DC04 motors have brushes.

Dysonmedic.com is an excellent site that shows how to strip and reassemble these machines.

Good luck...
