Frozen JVC DR-MX1S VHS/HDD/DVD Recorder. How can I clear it?

My recorder has frozen with a flashing white light showing where the DVD mode button should show red and there is a feint rubbing sound. I am not certain if there is a DVD in the machine or not. I have tried turning of the power at the mains, as none of the buttons including the on/off button has any effect. It goes back to the same problem when I turn the power back on. I have contacted JVC who helpfully told me it is probably faulty. Is there anything I can do myself? Thank you.

Ok so I have the same machine with the same problem, surely there must be a way to repair the power supply board it is probably an individual component on the board that has gone down, with all the people out there that know about electronics there must be some that can repair a circuit board, I recently repaired a circuit board on my welding machine and I am a complete novice.
Please respond I live near Christchurch in Dorset.

I had the same machine too and the same problem happened to mine about 5 years after i purchased it. I was contemplating getting it repaired but that would have been a gamble as the spare part is no longer available. The recordings on the hard drive were still there though. I had to get a specialist data recovery person to retrieve the material for £400. He managed to do it. After I took out the hard drive, I made sure that I took a big hammer to it and smashed it to pieces. Took my frustration out on it. JVC weren't helpful either about how to retrieve the recordings. I'll never buy from them again.

I rang JVC UK. They gave me a number of a JVC authorised repairer in Derby, 10 miles away. I rang them, took it in a week last Tuesday and got it back last Friday.
Cost total £62.22 to have it repaired. I'm not sure whether a new PCB board was installed or repaired. It doesn't matter to me as I've got it back working and more importantly my valuable recordings can now be archived to DVD.

I have just experienced the same problem. Almost dead as a doornail except for white light on DVD mode that flashes occasionally.

Mine is just 5 years old.

I also have some valuable recordings on the HDD.
Any suggestions on how to repair and / or how to retrieve the HDD recordings will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Same problem here after switching on after not using for a couple of months. If JVC aren't helpful, suggest Watchdog?

I have the same problem. The failure is the power supply board. JVC no longer supply these. I suspect that is because it is of poor design and they have sold all the stock they anticipated would last another two years or so. it is completely outrageous that JVC do not supply a key spare on a machine less than 5 years old. I have written to them for an explanation. i will let you know what they say!

I same problem appeared on my DR-MX1S.
The problem is that I have valuable recordings on the HD.
Any idea how to solve this problem?

I've now got the same problem with my JVC dr-mx1s.

I also have a white light where the DVD light is... only mine's progressed to an additional 2 red lights above the HDD and VHS indicators, absoloutely no movement from the fan, and no other response from the machine at all.

Although it's alway's been a bit flakey (with it's "loading" error), it's been a good machine. Unfortunately, this looks like the end for it. It's funny that we've all had a similar problem about 5 year's after first switching it on. Coincidence, or what!

Ultimately, I suspect the solution is probably "buy something else", but that's expensive and I'd rather have own machine working... but I doubt that's going to happen.

Therefore, I'm going to bite the bullet and head down to the shops and have a look for something else (though not from JVC, who I've lost faith in due to their poor support for this machine).

Sad, really.
