Hello, We have a JVC camcorder that records onto a tape, once the tape is full we then transfer the filming onto a DVD-R via the dvd recorder. Only we have 3/4 dvd discs that are not finalized as we bought a Phillips video/dvd recorder combi ages ago and never knew that we had to finalize the discs after burning info onto them. Since finding this out the Phillips dvd/video combi that we used to transfer all the data onto the dvd-r discs has broken. Only these discs are VERY important to me as a mum as they hold my little girls first few days after she was born on them etc...We have tried finalizing them on our new dvd reorder which is a samsung and it doesnt even read the dvd!!!!

Which model do you have? i've got the same problem with philips dvdr3512v.. no solution yet..

Nicola, you can try data recovery companies, the most popular one for DVDs is www.minidvdrepair.com
I've used them in the past with very satisfactory results. Good luck!
