Fan for ventilation on Rover 416?

Found that a new resister pack costs about £40-45. That's quite expensive for a crude affair of just three coiled wire resistors. You can get coiled resistors encased in a ceramic compound from Maplins but only approximate values (they need to be 1.5ohm, 0.68ohm & 0.27ohm) which will then also give approximate fan speeds but each is just a few pence. You can't get some exact values but for instance for the 0.68ohm value you can fit two 1.2ohm resistors in parallel giving you a value of 0.6ohm. However I then found a company selling the plain wire resistors of the exact values for a fraction of the cost including the postage. Addtitionally these use metal with chromium/zinc added which will avoid them getting briitle as the originals do and last for some considerable time. So all I need is to do some desoldering of the orginals and then solder in the replacements and I have a working resister pack yet again for little cost.

should be that its quite a common fault, resistor burns out if heater always left on one speed. dont think they are too expensive. could always gamble on 2nd hand one if its too dear.

Fortunately, according to the Haynes Manual, its located behind the glovebox so all thats required is to unscrew the couple of bottom mounting screws, withdraw the glovebox and there it is. Then disconnect the lead to it and unscrew the two screws holding it in and its removed.
Fingers crossed now that the fault is that component and that it won't cost too much (yes, I know the latter is hoping for a lot!!).

will be your heater resistor. this is found behind dash on heater box with a couple of wires going to it. not sure how to get to it on rovers though.
