I had this problem and found this thread.

Paul was spot on - down by the clutch pedal you will see two plastic cogs - one of mine was one white, the other black - this is what moves when you turn the temp control for the fan (the wire in mine had broken) so I turned the smaller one (below the bigger one) and it turns the bigger one and hot air at last!

I think I will leave it at that - no need to fix the steel wire that connects the cogs to the dashboard control for me

Paul you are genius !!!!

Have to agree with Alan as I had the same problem with mine and it turns out that its the cable thats bent and therefore not opening the tap properly.
I got under and tried moving the cogs to open the tap and hey presto - Heat again!!! mmmm my car is like a little hot pie again..
Cheers Alan. my mrs is happy again now :)

I have had the same problem on three Mondeos. People will rightly tell you to check the coolant levels, heater matrix etc but the problem I have had on all three occasions was the cable from the temperature switch not opening the valve properly. If you look on the side of the heater unit to the left of the clutch pedal you will two small cogs with a cable attached to the top one. Use a screwdriver to fully turn the cogs and it will open up the valve and with a bit of luck you should get hot air.
Good luck alan

If you have a coolent problem in your car the first thing to go is the heating inside the car.

Have you checked your engine coolant level when the engine is cold? Sometimes if you have insufficient coolant levels the heaters fail to work.
