What material should be used for conservatory roof const?

Our conservatory had a double skin perspex roof which we changed to double glazed units, the company doing the work constructed a wooden frame to support the window units unfortunately this didn't work and the roof began to sag. They have now put up an unsightly steel girder which the alumminium frame was unable to support so we are back to square one. Question: does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this as I don't entirely trust the company doing the work

polycarbonate which you had removed is the only suitable glazing as used on all conservatories unless constructed to take proper double glazed units, never seen or heard of one though.
The company who did the work should be taken to the small claims court for neglegance, as they didn't have a clue, and your money recovered plus cost of replacing the polycarbonate.

It is obvious to me the company who did the job doesn't seem to have a clue.
Roof structures of conservatories are for lighweight polycarbonate not double glazed glass units they as you have found out too heavy and added to that a wooden frame. May be even the main framing around the conservatory can't take the added weight either that migh even start bowing this should have been checked out prior to works by a structural engineer or to have contacted the makers of the conservatory units.
You have to settle for the beam I'm afraid and how you play it with the contactor is up to you.

Get a report from a structural engineer [local authority but it costs] then see what is said and put results COPY to the contractor see what they do re the report.
