knitmaster ribber?

I have a brand new knitmaster with ribber attachment.
Both the knitting bed and ribber work well seperately but I struggle to get the carriage to glide through each row once I have achieved casting on.
I can do a row but its extremely tough and nine times out of ten the thread will break. I have tried a much looser tention and a stronger yarn. I feel its something very simple as its so nearly there. but its driving me mad as I paid good money for it and i can't use it. Any ideas?

Hello Katy,
You do not say if you are trying to knit every needle rib or 1x1 rib.
If trying every needle rib use a 2 or 3 ply yarn as 4 ply is a bit too thick and will make it difficult to push the carriage across.
1x1, 2x1, 2x2, or a wider rib should knit OK with 4 ply yarn, make sure you have the appropriate tension setting on both carriages and that you have enough weight on the ribber comb.

if you have the ribber book you should see how to adjust height .cam lever should always be at stockinet.
ensure ribber needle bed is in its highest postion.push up with both hands if you need to.
i teach machines to villagers in uganda and a couple of times the fault has been that the machine and ribber were not compatible.
hope this is not the case with you..good luck
