Brother knitmaster KH 965?

When I try to cast on with a finished edge I set the needles as the book says, put in wool take carriage to the left for first row then push needles back to "b" setting, on putting the carriage to the right again the wool does not make loops to hang comb on, they seem too tight, so concequently when it does start to knit it catches on comb and makes like a loop instead of the knitting hanging down, I have been given this machine and have not used 1 before, Also this is electronic and I havent dared turn it on yet I am really in the dark HELP

hi wish i was there to help you with your closed edge cast on.there are very simple ways to do it.try push needles forward winding the wool round each needle TO THE BACK OF LATCH NEAREST TO MACHINE BED ..not too tight and not too loose, knit one row...push needles forward..towards you, knit 1 row, repeat for about 6-10 rows then add weights..with cast on comb if preferred.
another way is to cast on in a chain with hook tool.
i teach machines in uganda to villagers....i could have showed you how to use your electronic machine too

Hi Carole,
Sorry you are not having any success.
When you have needles in any position apart from 'A' they should always knit back to 'B' unless you have the carriage set for Hold, Tuck or Part (slip). Take the sinker plate off the carriage, push forward some needles and run the carriage across without any yarn. They should all come forward as the carriage moves over them and return to 'B' position as it passes them. Does this happen?

Hello Carole,
Are you trying an e-wrap cast on? If you are, hang the comb after you have wrapped the needles, then use a tension appropriate to your yarn to knit with.
Make sure none of the buttons at the front of the carriage are pressed in and the Holding Cam Lever is on 'N'. The needles should then knit back to 'B' as you knit the row.
If you want a simple cast on, push forward alternate needles to 'B' position and knit 1 row to the left on a tightish tension. Hang the comb on to these loops.
Push forward the in-between needles, so that they are all in a straight line, change the tension to suit your yarn and knit back to the right. You should now be able to continue knitting.
Hope this helps you to get started,

Sue
