I used a Cotton Swab soaked with Contact cleaner and cleaned the laser head.

I have a mintek 1030 portable dvd player that would read loading then no disc. I just tried what Helper suggested and it works perfectly now. Thanks for the great advice

YUP, I HAVE 3 MINTEK PORTABLE DVD PLAYERS NOW, 1 WAS MINE, 2 WERE FRIENDS. THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I SUSPECT THE LASER HAS GONE BAD. I'M LOOKING FOR A SOURCE FOR REPLACMENTS LASER ASSEMBLIES. GOOD LUCK TO US ALL.

I had the same problem with a Mintek 1600 DVD player. Put disk in, main "mintek screen comes up on tv, and get no disk found error. I followed these directions and it worked. For the 1600, UNPLUG unit, remove outside cover screws, remove lid. Find DVD unit, remove 4 screws for cover plate, there is the laser lens unit, Gently rotate the gears or the unit with your finger to get the unit in and out a few times ( i did about 4-5 times). Replace cover and 4 screws, replace outer cover and 6 screws. Plug in, chose CD of your choice, U2 worked really well for me, and hit the PLAY button. Mine made some odd noises and played, at first you could tell the music was a bit off, but by the end of the album it was fine. (Unit is recalibrating)Hooked it up to the tv, dvd in, hit play and Bingo works again. Kudos to "Helper" for this great hint.

Fix "NO DISC" error:

KUDOS to original finder of this fix 'cuz it WORKS!!:
1. With the power turned off, open the lid and then open the hatch where you put the DVD into.
2. Locate the laser lens and notice that the laser lens is attached to an assembly that moves diagonally outward in a slot.
3. First, slide this assembly outward.
4. Second, slide it back inward.
5. Now repeat (3-4) three times - slide out then back in.
6. Next, put in a music CD and let it play all the way through. (This re-calibrates the laser head assembly movement.)
7. When the music CD is done playing, put in a DVD, and amazingly, you'll have a working unit again.

If DVD does not work/play right away, slide the laser assembly out away from center and check with DVD again.
