Yes, it is possible and quite easy. You do need a very small cross head screwdriver and good light.
The screen and tools (small screwdriver and plastic lever thingy) I bought off ebay for about £14.
Firstly REMOVE THE BATTERIES and memory card!!
Remove the 4 silver screws from the 2 sides of the camera.
Remove 2 black screws from the bottom.
Open the battery door and remove 2 screws under the battery door.
The front of the camera can now be gently prised away from the back.
This will reveal one more screw. Looking at the front of the camera (lense facing you) the last screw is on the left about halfway up the left hand battery tube.
Remove this screw.
The back cover can now be gently prised away from the body of the camera.
You can now see the LCD screen and "frame" which is held down by 4 screws. Remove the 4 screws. The ribbon cable will gently pull out of the connector. I suspect the connector should really be opened first but it is very fragile and with gentle force the ribbon will come out without opening it. As the screen is being replaced it doesn't matter if the ribbon gets damaged. When the ribbon is out I found the flap on the connector loose and flipped up on it's own accord, but you may have to gently flip it up to be able to get the new screen's cable in.
The final operation of dissassembly is to gently prise the old screen out of the "frame". It is just a tight fit, there are no screws. remove the old screen and put the new screen in the frame.
Gently push the ribbon cable into the connector as far as it will go and fold the flap down to lock it in. I then put 2 screws in to hold the frame on the camera body and then tested it. Insert 2 fresh batteries and make sure it works (before you put it all back together!) If the screen is still black just gently re insert the ribbon cable. If this problem persists you either have a faulty screen or there is a fault with the camera.
Hopefully it will work and then reassembly is simply a reverse of the above!! Screw lengths do differ slightly so make sure the right screw goes back in the right place. I did video this but found my video camera wasn't working after putting it all back together so this is from memory (although, fairly fresh in my mind!)
Don't blame me if it goes wrong, I tried my best, it's up to you, but hey, what have you got to lose!!?
Good luck!
