Connections for single phase Jet Fan?

I have a Thermal Engineering Systems Jetfan (JF1804)with a speed control by S & P. This is a single phase induction motor powered fan which was obtained in a dismantled condition and missing it's Start/Run capacitor. I would be grateful for any info on the size of the capacitor (I have a 10microFarad item) and the connections to the speed control which has 5 terminals but the indications are that only 2 were used.
L (upward arrow); L (downward arrow); N (upward arrow); N (downward arrow) and lastly a sine wave symbol with an arrow through it. It has a printed circuit with a switched potentiometer (for the speed control) and a large wattage coil rather like a dimmer switch.
The motor has 6 wires going to 2 seperate field coils (one of these, presumably, has the capacitor in series with it) and a what appears to be a single coil with virtually no resistance. The 3 coils are electrically seperate.
Many thanks.

I am partly answering my own question. The 10 microfarad capacitor works well and the fan seems fine now - all I need now is the speed control to function. There are now 2 'spare' wires going into the motor which I presume are involved with this speed control. Any ideas anyone?
