Flymo Compact 340 - seized?

I have a several year old flymo 340. Motor still works but not turning blade so starts to whine and smoke.
Disassembled blade/fan and can't see anything wrapped round it.
Any hints/tips appreciated....

My 340 starts to cut grass then makes a noise,smoke coming out and then cuts out,when i take cover off and feel the motor it is very hot,and that is only after running for 10 seconds

Thanks for tips....

Took off old belt.
Motor spins well when not under load.
Blade mechanism spins freely.
Put on NEW belt - same problem. Seems to be at the motor-spindle end that drives the blade slipping on the belt.

Got fed up with it - have bought a new mower!!!

Many of these machines had a braked base plate, if this or the bearing insine has seized you will have to change the complete base plate
