XP PC freezes when booting up?

Hello

When ever I turn on my PC, I usually get a black screen with Phoenix at the top and it lists the processor, IDE/drives, graphics card memory, etc, it then make its way to the window xp screen with scrolling banner below, and after that to the user log on screen. When turning my PC on yesterday, it goes to the screen with phoenix at the top, it lists the processor and thats it, frozen. Have tried accessing safe mode by pressing F8 but know joy, and I cant get into the BIOS to check settings

PC Spec

Abit ISV-7
pent 4 3.06
I gig memory
500 power supply
geforce 6600 gt graphics card
dvd rom
DVD/CD rewriter

I thought maybe with the hot weather in the uk that it might have overheated.

Anyone got any ideas as I feel like I've lost an arm.

Cheers in advance

Chris

If you cannot get into the BIOS. unplug all peripherals first. Turn off at the mains and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. After this, switch on your computer and boot into BIOS (remembering to leave peripherals unplugged). If you cannot get into the BIOS, remove the RAM and boot it up and look out for any messages. Failing that and not being able to access the BIOS, check any USB ports at the front of your base unit for any damage as this can prevent POST (Power On Self Test). I this fails, then I would be looking at possible motherboard fault. If you want to check for overheating, then leave it when the messages you mentioned are on the screen and see if switches off within half an hour or so. Try it without the side panel on your computer and see how you get along. Hope this information is useful
