jones sewing machine not picking up bobbin thread?

The jones model number is 778.
The needle is in correctly. I oil the machine regularly, but now the bobbin thread is not always being picked up by the needle thread. It happens on both straight and zigzag. It might miss one stitch or several in a row. Any idea what my poor machine needs?
would much appreciate a reply.
