My Sharp TU-R252H says starting when switched on and wont go any further except eventually switches itself off. Message did say on screen that hard drive needed formatting and when yes selected this was result. Have switched unit off for a few minutes and tried again with same resul have now got it switched off Help
the ide hard drive is easy to remove and you could try and format it in a pc and see if it recognizes it.
if not it will need to be replaced and you can find a 250gb ide hdd for around £20 on ebay!

Mines is the same. When I switch it on all I get is please wait while the hard disk is initialised. Thats it. Won't do anything after that. Any advise would be appreciated.
