Scantronic 9800?

I have been unable to programme my alarm following a power cut.I have had an engineer out but said the memory chip has had it.my question on this site is can I replace this chip myself,if so where can I purchase such component and how much is it likely to cost.

The engineer only wanted to fit a newer panel and wouldn't divulge any info regarding repair,I know a little about electronics so this is why aim questioning the engineers methods regarding repair.

Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Maybe the engineer didn't want to take your system on ,for what reasons we do not know.did you receive a full written report when you handed over your hard earned cash?.

Can you see where acorn and I are coming from?

As suggested mate get that second opinion.

Good luck with it and find the time to let us know the outcome.

I'd also suggest another Eng. The 9800s that I know don't suffer with what you are saying.

I bet it's the battery and he was just trying to make a sale.
Did he check the battery in any way?

You can purchase one from farnell electronics for around 50p,now's that's cheap as chips.

9800 NVM # 93C46 or redcare equivalent,

Just take extra care not to bend the pins and ensure you fit it the right way round, all the info you need is in the engineering manual that is easily found following a google search.just follow the defaulting method and reprogramme as necessary.

As a matter of interest did the engineer remove and refit the NVM?,

Iam not on here to question your engineers work ethics but I would defo get a second opinion because I can't see why the engineer couldent fit or code one up?.Anyway good luck with it
