How can I fix my Corby Trouser Press 4400?

My press 4400 works perfect so I tried to clean ,separated the boards but can’t it back together?

I am going to try Luminex Stick and Fit adhesive ironing board cover which comes in a rectangular shape to be cut to size. Including postage it is costing me about £21. Thanks for all the other bits of advice which lead me to find this. Let's see if it works now...

Reading all the responses here, I think I’ll not be going anywhere with my Corby 4400 that doesn’t heat my more!! It’s been pressing every day for 30 years, so that’s not bad service!! My son has one he got in a charity shop that he doesn’t use so I’ll take it over and if I get another 5 years or so that’ll be good for me!!

Having just taken one to bits to replace the foam pad: you probably can't.

Even if the heating element was available as a spare part (pretty sure it isn't), the thing is held together with rivets rather bolts or screws and the heating element is a 240 volt part. Not a great idea to repair it unless you know what you're doing; you could burn your house down!

Seems it's designed to be sturdy and easy to manufacture; ease of repair wasn't even thought of.

I don't know about Corby but I upended my press and found small holes with deeply recessed screws and that gave me access to the electrical panel connected to the switches.
I have had a Carmen/Man trouser press for c. 40 years. Had 2 timer settings which no longer work so I have to set an alarm to avoid scorching. Cannot find a website for that brand:anyone know whether it became, or was taken over by Corby? The local Carmen agents no longer trading so can't get any information from them.

My fourth press, 7700 model, in little over 16 years has just packed in. Average lifespan 4.5 years. Contacted Corby and they are not interested, they have a captive market. They claim 20 years for some of their units in hotels, can't see it myself.
No alternative but to buy a new one or wear creased trousers.

I have the same problem with an old model that was sold under the "Brookstone" name in the U.S.. I would love to tinker with it but can't figure out how to break it down...no visible screws, nuts or bolts. Obviously, it has to be pried but I don't want to really destroy it. Any hints?

I experienced problems with spares ie. Foam nylon backing sheet.Just go to Corby Hospitality on the
Website and place Order without Company details.
and Happy Days...took me over 6 months of frustration.

I replaced the deteriorated cover with a foam backed ironing board cover for mush cheaper than the Corby spare and it's available in most hardware stores. Just make sure that you get the width that you require. They have some nice designs too if you don't want the standard black.

I have a Corby 5000 and the what seems to be foam backing has broken up and most of it is in the bottom, is there some where to buy a new one, or can I carry on using it as is ?

Fordgt Can you please tell me whether you used a cover over the auto headliner? I have the same problem and the outside nylon or polyester cover is all sticky while the inside just about disintegrated.

I have a Corby trouser press 5000.
The press appears to work well; however; the press has developed a bad smell when it heats, the smell reminds one of an "electrical odor". The smell fills the room and gives the trousers the same smell, you can smell the odor when you wear them for several days. I have use odor removal products, etc. to no avail, at this point I can no longer use the product.
Do you have any suggestions?

Peter J you ever get an answer to your question? that is the spot I am at now. I have had similar experiences with Corby. The foam backer pad had disintegrated, corby had no "spares" so I bought a roll of auto ehadliner material. All back together except for the bar with the 2 springs.

I took it apart, fixed the problem (backing foam had desintegrated) but how do you put the iron bar on the bottom back in?

The Power light never goes out:
This is usual, whenever the press is powered the light will be lit, the only way to deactivate this feature is to switch off or unplug from the mains.

I need replacement feet/hanger bracket:
All presses with the "A &B" lip on plastic feet are able to have replacement feet fitted (older wooden models no longer have spares available) - the plastic feet are supplied in a kit with the hanger, this is because they are manufactured in the same material and deteriorate at roughly the same rate. We have found that when a foot goes the remaining plastic parts follow and so we supply a full replacement kit. My unit no longer heats up:

Sounds like I'm in familiar company here. I have a lovely (at least 10 years old) wooden Corby press model 5500a that stopped heating the other month (ok, so 10+ years is a good run for its money) but otherwise works, and what's more, looks great. So my wife bought me a new one for Christmas, which of course works fine but its just not the same quality of workmanship as the old one. To keep their costs down the trouser presses are now mostly all plastic. Such a shame that I'm reluctantly going to have to throw away the quality old one just because the heater element has worn out.

I have no say some years ago I had the same problem - just outside warranty period - Corby could not have been more helpful and with minimum proof of purchase date etc they sent a complete new press foc - some years later the element has now gone - frankly and whilst accepting the Eco argument in my case they owe me nothing and I will buy another one

My Corby Trouser Press 4400 has exactly the same problem, does not heat up but timer lights all work, and in all other respects is in immaculate condition, but out of warranty. Corby's response to my email asking about repairing it, was to direct me to their web site selling new trouser presses, saying that they do not provide a repair service.

I've finally replaced the element - but the experience wasn't much fun. It's all held together with rivets and staples, etc: it feels like a first prototype and certainly not like a production model. I've used bolts in place of rivets while re-assembling it.

The trouble is that it does work quite well, and one's trousers are a good deal smarter for using it. I think one just has to accept that it's an expendable piece of kit to be thrown away when it fails. I'm hoping to delay the next failure by running it for 15 minutes only at a time.

If only there were another manufacturer to provide some competition . . . . .

I just ordered a new heating element online, and they sent it - no questions asked about whether I was registered or not. But fitting it is an entirely different matter. The machine isn't built for ease of servicing!!

I have the same problem. Lights go on and off but no heating
This happened after the Warranty Period was over.
The reports I have read here appear to indicate that Corby couldn't care less, so I'll not bother to contact them

Same prob here - no heat! Although the press is approx 5 yrs old, so not bad going...
Anyway, Spk to Corby and basically you CAN buy spares, as long as you are a registered company, ie registered and trading electrician etc, THEN they (the VAT registerd electrician) needs to open a trade account, and then THEY can order the spare parts for you, and presumably fit them too (for a charge, for all their trouble). Hope that helps! Just gotta find and electrician now!...

The element can be replaced - if that is the problem - as can the timer. I have a similar problem but just trying to work out which part is the cause of my troubles.... trying to embarass a response out of them on twitter.

I have exactly the same problem. Telephoned Corby direct. Explained that this was our second press and their response was totally negative, unhelpful and was suggested that I buy yet another! Somehow I don't think so!!

Hi Folks........I too have an otherwise perfect Corby Electronic Trouser press which fails to heat up. I wrote to Corby, who claim to make high quality equipment and are 'by Royal Appointment' and they said they didn't offer repairs. A search of the internet suggests no-one else does either. I guess its the heating element. It seems the complete opposite of eco-friendliness to have to chuck away the whole device simply because the heating element cant be replaced, and maybe Corby should pause and consider why a machine they market as high class cant be repaired. It doesn't seem to be good for their reputation at the moment, that's for sure.
