how can i get my ford mondeo to pass emissions test ?

my y reg ford mondeo failed on emissions its done 125000 miles my garage changed the spark plugs emissions were still too high ,they checked the engine for head gasket failure and no failure was found they believe it to be the internal, oil scrapper rings siezed and said it would cost over 1000 pound to fix because they would have to strip the engine my car is no longer probably worth a 1000 pound is there anything else i can do to make it pass the emissions test to get 12 months mot

yes it is burning oil because i have to top it up every so often , i dont think it is worth the expense if there is no gaurantee it would fix it , thanks for your info , time to start looking for a new car me thinks , its a shame because it drives fine otherwise and is in good condition thanks again

I take it you are getting a lot of blue smoke and your motor is burning oil.I would have thought it very difficult to say it is exactly oil control rings without actually stripping your engine for a look and actually checking all other parts thoroughly,you will have to determine if it is worth the expense with no actual guarantee it will fix your motor
