Thanks will do but they will be 16amps not 15 the next down from 16 is 10 too low. As for the bungalow CU will look at replacing with plug in mcb's from Wylex via Screwfix. Last estimate for changing CU in bungalow was over £900 ex vat , no struggling in a cupboard easy eye level 'walk in the park' flat wall no obstructions, job half a day, all feeds in from attic just meter tails my need extending external meter box on same wall about 18inches lower so easy access all round I think the electrician was a p...taker, or saw as as a couple of old codgers waiting to be robbed. I wasn't polite when he kept pushing for a start date, so told him to f off.
and one more thing,you must get a P.I.R done when the consumer unit is replaced,and a 9 page report given to you,(periodic inspection report,)basicly an M.O.T for the house wiring ,you prob guessed it by now,am a spark

remember it should be a 17th edit cu with rcd protection,but £900.plus vat seems a bit much
you where right in telling him to go away,:-)screw fix a bit expensive try a company called cpc (farnell electronics)they where selling a fully loaded cu for around £74.00 plus vat

Thanks for the feedback. I had a similar system when I moved into my property some years ago. My detached garage feed was a domestic 2.5mm single feed via a 15 amp hose fuse with no earth leakage protection! It always pays to ask- glad to be of help. In the meantime you could use a 'plug in' circuit breaker just stay on the safe side- Take care, GB
