Kenwood Chef - speed knob - how do I get it off?

On the A701A, the Kenwood label on the knob is plastic. Poke a small flat blade screwdriver onto the right hand end of the label and press (note that it’s not necessary to insert blade between label and knob recess).
With just enough pressure on the right hand end, the left hand end pops up and reveals the spring clip and shaft.
To replace label, insert left hand end and lay the label flat against the recess. With a little pressure on the right hand end towards the left hand side, the label bows up in the middle and the right hand side can be pressed home.

The problem I had was that the knob did not seem to be engaging with the controls.

The Kenwood label is thin aluminium and seems to be stuck on to the knob. Carefully remove with a thin blade. In the resulting recess is a plastic "shelf" which has protruding legs at each end. These latch on to the back of the knob. I prised this shelf out and forced the legs to come free but you could try to push the end tabs in from behind the knob if you can get in!

Once the "shelf" is removed then it's just a matter of slipping the spring circlip out of the groove on the spindle, lifting off the knob behind which is a spring.

My problem was caused by the spindle coming out of the casting. It seems to be a splined end. I tapped it back in. Should it come out again I will strip it down further and put loctite on the splines.

Hi. I have been fixing up our Kenwood A901 Chef and I too cant get the speed control knob off to change the cam. I removed the Kenwood badge on the knob only to find solid plastic underneath. Any ideas? Thanks, Bob

On a 701a carefully prise the Kenwood badge out from the centre of the knob, its clipped at both ends, I managed to work a thin blade it at the centre and lift it sufficiently to get a small screwdriver in to push both ends out. Then all is obvious, there is a small spring clip holding the knob on the shaft, push it off.

Thank you for great help. I have managed to dismantle the knob but the shaft will not stay in it's place. It sort of slides into the plastic part of the knob thus leaving its hole in the motor. It may be that a plastic "knob" has broken off and disappeared. My father suggests using a match to hold the shaft in place. Unfortunately I do not know the perfect English words for these parts but hole that you understand what I mean.

I've mended and helped others to mend theold 901 Chefs and so far have never had to remove the knob....
The motor comes out with the knob and "Speed control Cam" intact.... But take photos of the thing at each stage so you can get it back together properly....
And if anyone knows the correct minmum seed for the K beater is please lemme know!!

I have had the same problem, but have just discovered it. Carefully remove the metal Kenwood sticker on the speed control knob. Underneath the sticker is the bit that you have to remove. On the back of the knob there are two semi circleer holes that have a plastic, slightly raised clip on the curved part of the hole. with a small screwdriver or thin fingers, push the plastic clips towards the middle of the knob, realising the clip, push it upwards and out of the top of the knob where the sticker was. Underneath that, you will see the end of the spindle and the retaining wire spring clip holding the knob onto the spindle. carefully remove the spring clip, and the knob will then be able to be removed. To resemble, just reverse the instructions, and then glue back the metal Kenwood label, back onto the speed dial. Hope the above instructions are clear enough. It's one thing taking it apart, but another trying to explain exactly what I have done. So I hope it helps anyone in future that is having the same problem:-)

There's a small hole through the knob, in which is a metal split-pin. You'll need a perfectly-sized tool, to tap the hollow pin out.
