clicking noise on the line?

When I'm making a call on my 1200/1210 style Binatone there is a clicking sound on the line after a minute or so and then the line goes dead. What's up and what's the solution.

Charges for property internal fault on any socket cable or equipment beyond the First line socket bringing in the line to your house and from which extensions are run start around £100. So take heed, doing the following could save you that charge.
First make a call with phone base station in original used socket when it starts to click look in the phone display window for the battery indicator if its flashing then that’s probably the clicking and would probably show icon of low battery and that’s causing it to cut out through drained power.
Follow on if battery status is ok
1. Ensure you have power for the base station for each socket you test including the first line socket and connect the base station in turn to each extension socket and make a call. If on each it still cuts out ok go to 2
2. Plug the base station into the first line socket that is the socket with the removable plate at the bottom. Make a call if it cuts out unplug the base station and remove the box bottom plate pulling it out of its socket carefully so you don’t dislodge the extension cables, not dangerous very low voltage. Plug the base station into the socket you pulled the plate from make a call if it again cuts out and a line test shows clear it could be either your cordless phone or a fault in the base station. So its 3 now.
3. The only thing you can try to rule out socket faults is to use another phone corded then you don’t have to bother with power, pick up a cheap corded telephone try that if no clicks and no cutting out of calls its then a phone or base station fault chuck it buy new. If fault persists on the sockets then it has to be an external line fault.
However if you get a line without cutting out on the main line socket then check there is no wire off the terminals feeding the extensions some will only have 3 connected others connect all six.
If say term 2 on the first line socket is orange and white it must show 2 on each extension
If Blue and white is on 5 blue and white must be on each extension and so on for all wires usually only 3 colours used (the old school ) with the other three twisted together clipped at ends and rolled up tucked out of the way in the back of the box so if you see half out don’t worry as long as three connected usually 2,3,5

Test all sockets with new phone if no fault phone lines supplier telling them the testst you carried out with the new phone and fault is still there proving its external.
