when I connect cable to tv, start up is OK, then I get a message (no signal) what do I need to do.
the cable is ok as i've used it on other computers
is the laptop powerful enough to connect to tv.

Try holding down the function key (Fn) and pressing F2 on the top row of the keyboard. This I believe cycles the laptop screen from Laptop only - to - Remote screen only - to both - and so on...
From my distant memory the switch over is not instantaneous so be patient.
