fit a new switch they only cost £1.60 or £3.14 for a really good one from Screwfix

The solution is to either replace the cord or to replace the switch and the cord - a relatively easy task for a person with a little confidence - else call in a tradesman.
New cords (and switches) can be bought at hardware shops & DIY stores.
Isolate the power before starting work.
