Can I cut an outside t.v. ariel without getting a shock?

My very old t.v. ariel has been taken down so that it can be thrown out. The wire that comes through the brick wall is still attached to the ariel. Is it safe to simply cut through this wire, without having a shock ?

That depends on what’s inside. An antenna with an amplifier on it has an indoor power supply that powers it through the coax lead. If there’s anything connected to the coax other than exposed antenna connections it’s probably an amplifier. A satellite dish always has active electronics powered through the coax. Find the power injector for the coax and disconnect it. In theory a properly functioning power supply should not give you a shock even if you don’t disconnect it. In practice, you can be injured by a defective power supply. If it can’t be disconnected, use insulated gloves and don’t be holding/touching anything grounded when you cut it. (i.e. assume you’re cutting a live 110v power line.)
