Replacing mains cable on dyson dc04?

dont cut anything its simple use a very small Jewlers size flat blade screwdriver push down the small holetill it stops thats the lip on the release push forwards and in toward handle then prize up switch.Undo Torx screw and lift up part. simples

I used the bent screwdriver down the hole idea, had to trim it down in size because of the tiny hole. Instead of using 2 screwdrivers to take the button out I used a pair of adjustable pipe grips and out it came as easy as pie. Just make sure you don't overdo the pressure on the button though.

Yes, the cable can split and become dangerous from pulling during use.

The blasted yellow button has a non-return springy part which needs pushing hard down the small hole next to the yellow button.

To get it to release. I just banged with very fine screwdriver and busted it to get the yellow switch cover out. Broken small chips off the surround.

Undo retaining screw (star type) and assembly slides upwards.

Remember which wire goes where, take a photo BEFORE you undo the spade connectors. Then you'll know which bit goes where.

Has all gone back quite tightly. Looks a bit worse for wear.

What a faff.

I soldered using the original spades, as I do not have replacements to clamp onto new cable.

Make sure you loop the mains flex as per original cord grip so that yanking on it later will not cause it to pull through.

Is working now.

Stick anything sharp and narrow down that tiny hole; I used an old dental, angled, pointy thing... wiggle away and you'll remove the switch in less thana minute. then remove the phillips screw and the switch housing comes away, revealing the wiring, switch and 4 spade connectors.

Hi Guys
Ther are two small holes on mine: First try to remove the yellow button - the small hole is on the yellow bit between the switch and the body the whole yellow switch pops out - it is very close to the body, so easy to miss. Particularly as the second hole is obvious and on the purple rim, and you will need to remove the star screw before trying to remove the assembly with the screwdriver in this second hole. I just need to find a star screwdriver now...why didn't they use a phillips!

Hi

Just repaired this on mine, the switch has a release lug on the plastic of the switch so whatever you put down the small hole needs to run flush with the switch to release it, once in place use a small screwdriver each side to lift the switch out.

After a full half hour and plenty of cursing the yellow button gave in, the housing had a few cracks to boot. There's never a car thief around when you want one! Anyway just to say that the small hole is now a heck of a lot bigger and I would like to see a screwdriver which could have fitted in it. The rest is straight forward if you are that way inclined. Good luck, off to search for new housing now!!

1 - unplug hover !
prize UP and out the yellow button by:
applying a small screwdriver into the small hole between the yellow button and the body of the housing around it.
Now use two screwdrivers to prize the button UP and out of the body.

Once the button is out use a star screwdriver to release the electrical switch.
If you have had an intermittent problem, the spade connectors probably just need reseating.

If you look from above the switch you will see a tiny hole between the switch and the main body of the Dyson a small screwdriver bent at 90 degrees should do the trick but it is very very fiddly.

I finished doing it today and I can assure anyone with a similar problem that it's impossible to withdraw the switch to replace the cable on that model. There's not enough room to work inside with the cables being clamped firmly in such a small space!
I eventually cut away the section below the switch and luckily made just enough room to do the job without wrecking anything.
If anyone wants details on where and how to cut, leave a message here.

Your not alone Harry, we have the same problem as of today, Jan 9th and the only part I can't dismantle is the darned switch from it's housing. It seems to be the only part of the machine that doesn't have an obvious removal process. I hope we get a reply before the carpets need another clean!
Somebody help please!
