Personally I'd rip it out and recycle it - so called waste disposal units are HUGELY damaging environmentally, and its actually costing you a lot of extra money both in power bills and - indirectly - local utilty charges.
What they do is add a massive loading of proteins and fats to the sewerage system. The sewer water then flows to your local treatment plant and has to be cleaned up again. The more plant and animal waste is in the sewerage, the more difficult and costly it is to clean again. YOU and your neighbours will be paying for this. And why do you think sewarge plants stink out the whole local area? Decomposing proteins!
Banning waste disposal units would help reduce air polution, lower public utilities charges and save electricity too!
Far better to compost the stuff instead of chucking it down your sink - then it becomes an asset instead of a polutant.
