How do I stop rain water coming into the boot of my Ford Mondeo ?

When I wass my car or it rains water is getting into the boot on the passenger side. When I removed the panel covering the lighting cluster I found that water had collected on the frame that supports the lighting cluster and then spills through into the boot area. I cannot see how it gets there as it is enclosed above there.

The car is a Ford Mondeo Verona 1.8 X reg (ie not the current Mondeo)

hi had a similar problem myself with my 2.0 zetec mondeo turned out that i needed to replace the "sponge like" gasket that surrounds the lighting cluster. The gaskets are cheap enough from Ford & really easy to fit. Mine was bodged with silicone sealant by the previous owner, hence everytime it rained the car became a submarine!!

Hi, you will find that the rubber seal that fits around the cluster has failed as this is a common fault on the mondeo. I had the same problem & contacted Ford customer services who replaced both seals on the rear clusters free of charge as i had the car from new, they explained that they were carrying the repair out as a good will gesture!!. if you have to pay for a replacement cluster you are looking at £100+. Hope this has been of some help ---- Good Luck

when mine did the same i removed the rear light cluster and cleaned the bodywork and the seal attached to the lights. you will probably find the seal is partially perished. easy fix is to put a small amount of clear silicone mastic all the way around on top of the seal and replace unit .to remove unit is simple just undoe the 4 small bolts that you see from the back.
