Please be advised that if a junction box is used on a cable, it MUST be accessible for inspection / test, NEVER under the floorboards. The only joints allowed to be hidden are soldered, braised & compression. Bottom line - get a professional in (www.niceic.org)

to repair 40amp cable safley im assuming its for a damaged cable to a socket its always best to put new cable in if possible but failing that you can get a junction box normally round in black or brown sometimes white from any diy shop normally 3 quid ish n join cables together in the box make sure the outer sheaf is in the box n put the colours together in it make sure terminal screws are tight to reduce sparking n form cables round neatley to get lid on always make sure the electrical circuit is turned off

You could always use a 60amp junction box.
This will suffice as the rating of the junction box is higher than that of the cable.
Available from any electrical wholesalers

You will need to replace the cable run due to the high level of current it carries. A connection block will not suffice.
