Turns out that a medium-seized blob of Blu-tack behind the loose end of the control bar will hold it in position for several days. Although it's a little disconcerting when the contact springs finally win, it pops loose and the player goes silent while I'm driving along. A more permanent solution would be desirable.

The key pad on my radio has quite suddenly decided it won't latch into place. I can push the bar in as far as I want, it simply bounces back out. I can't for the life of me see what's wrong; the latch mechanism on the radio body looks intact and sprung, and I can't see obvious wear on the bar, but the two no longer see eye to eye. Has anyone else met this/does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? Worst case, I'll probably end up cementing it in place, but I'd prefer not to.

For all of you guise that have problem with static on radio, in deed the IC inside the tuner is the problem.
You can Change it but you have make a thermal sink between the IC and the tuner screening!
I was lucky , I just made "a re flow" on the IC , made a thermal sink , and ALL GOOD!
Good Luck!

Hi can anyone help me with a problem, I have a 6000 rds cd radio, my clever wife spilt a coffee into the radio now a code pops up, I put the correct code in and press 5 then the radio seems to flash on then it goes back to the reset code, I have taken the radio out and cleaned all the components and I have also discovered that if you press 6 and 5 at the same time it comes onto a test radio station so I know that it is working all ok, any ideas will be much appreciated, cheers Paul.

Hi All, I have a 51 plate mondeo with a 6000RDS stereo in it and mine too loses FM reception after 20- 40 mins. After a quick fiddle with it today I have turned the AF off this is one of the options pressing the menu button on the 5000-6000 units and this seems to have helped. AF seems to be the auto retune to the strongest signal but i only travel locally so doesnt worry me.. i only did it today so may not be the solution but its easier to try this than pull the unit out!

I have a 2003 Galaxy and after a driveshaft replacement (although AA thought it just needed a new circlip) my radio started having FM problems as listed above. I have recently replaced my battery and I can't enter the security code as the #1 button on the front of the radio doesn't seem to work anymore.

I decided to check the aerial socket buttons etc and removed the radio from the dashboard. I now find that my radio has a 'Ford AUDIO SYSTEMS' sticker on the top of the case with 'May 07' printed on it!

The car has only ever been left with the Ford dealer. I have had it since April 2004 so I am quite bewildered how 'May 07' can be printed on the top of the case.

Could it be that someone at the Ford dealers has swapped my radio with a dodgy one?

I have fixed the button now, the PCB track was broken, so I soldered a new wire to two new points that bridged the break. I think the faulty buttons are caused by drinks getting spilled, as the drinks holders on the Galaxy are directly above the radio. I have checked the solder joints on the main PCB and there are no faulty ones, this concludes that the fault is caused by a component failure.....Be nice if Ford could tell us......

This is an aerial fault, check the connection into the back of the headset and once you investigate behind all the insulation tape, you will probably find that the aerial connection has broken apart. ( Similar to aerial tv connection ).

i have a ford C-Max on a 59 plate and the cd stopped loading, so i took it into fords who replaced it with a new part. i drove out and loaded a cd which worked fine, until i wanted to eject it and guess what???????? the cd is now stuck in the player.
i have noticed that there is a dent on the top right hand corner of the unit which suggests the item has been dropped.

any ideas for me to try before i take it back again?

i too have had the same problem with the radio loosing stations,i also replaced the arial with a replacement from halfords yes i admit the original was cracked inside, this did not cure a problem,i then relised a had the origal 5000rds unit i took out when i bought the 6000 unit.after refitting hooray i have now got radio.so the fault does actually lie with the unit itself.

Hey i have this problem too unfortunatly i did not look around on the internet first, so i have already bought and fitted a new arial which has had no impact, and checked the connection at the rear of the radio and to the arial on the inside under the interior light, personally i think the best way to get this issue fixed for good is to buy a new radio double dinn if you have to, or get a single dinn one and a cradle adaptor/fascia.. Unless someone has come up with a DIY fix it seems like the radio itself locks on a dead frequency the only way you will get the radios to pick up the mp3/radio boradcasters is to find the fequency that its stuck on, buy getting a broadcaster where you can change the outgoing signal through the full range of fm and hope to hit the one that your radio is stuck on. It also seems that from one or 2 replys rebooting your radio might have some impact all be it temporary, i was going to give a try to unplugging it from the rear thus it looses all power and leaving it unplugged for 24/48 hours to lets it loose ALL charge in all transistors and so on, maybe that will cause the possibly faulty software to reboot and fix itself, all speculation of course. However if any of you have tired some of these things please let me know to save me time and money.
Many Thanks Russ.

If FM reception keeps cutting out but MW works, it is the faulty FM circuitry. I discovered this fact after browsing the web for answers. Does anyone know how much it will cost to fix it ? and who does it? Most of the time these units are out of warranty and I presume Ford will charge a bomb for repair.

I never realised their was a problem like this with the 6000CD.
I've owned my Fiesta Zetec 56 plate for a year now and not had any problems with it.
I don't really care if it breaks anyway because I want to replace it with a better double DIN head unit eventually.
Maybe their later models have been revised and the problems fixed.

My 6000 cd rds, has locked out buttons now after coping with lack of radio for some time. my local ford dealer was sitting on some other 'dead' units and i was able to salvage the front control pcb. As far as the radio goes, if your lucky enough to have a 6000 with green female jack plug you can purchase a connects2 kit and have a separate plug-in or use it for mp3 player ipods etc with 3.5mm jack

the old 6000 series are decent units when working but better to keep eye on ebay for 2nd hand ones... the DIVA of Ford HU's

Hi Everyone,

i have same problem with mine too. it started about a year ago where the signal would fade after about 45 min, but i ignored that as my journey to work was only 50 and i could last the last 5 min in silence. however over the months the amount of time it would last got shorter, and you could still here sound but it was out of tune and had a horrible high pitch squeek in background, it was like torture trying to listen to it.

my car was then in an accident so i thought i'll try to say since accident my radio doesn'y work, hoping they would fix it. no such luck they said it wasn't realted but said it was an internal error on the radio. however the guy said in ford garage that i would be able to tune it in manually and listen to stations that way. i read above that someone already doen this above but it would be a pain to do it everytime you left the car. i also had no luck when i attempted this and just got more squeeks.

my mum also has a for ka, so i'm thinking of taking her radio out and trying just to establish which end is broken the wires connecting it or the actual radio set box.

its so frustrating!! i have listened to westlife now for 6 months as i don't even have the model with the cd player. i have now invested in one of them Ipod cassette adaptors but its besides the point i want to hear whats in the chart. the last song i heard my radio play was JT's song from NOV 2006.

Help anybody know any more.

Someone who isn't blaming Ford for everything.
You are advised to go back to the dealership because they get to see your vehicles.
The advent of these forums just means you all have others to moan with lol
Your vehicles are over 5 years old...so actually your responsibility!!!
Dealerships do their best...so give them and Ford a break.

Hi,
My eldest daughter has just brought a KA Lux 2002. My youngest daughter also has a KA collection 2003 model but has never suffered any problems with that. both radio/cd players are the 6000 model.
Note-radio picks up MW fine, problem is FM. However,I actually got the radio to work tonight. I tuned to FM, it picked up all the local station plus the usual Radio 1,2 etc. I pressed the individual station buttons and it accepted them. I did this to buttons 1-4. fantasic so far. i thought i'd just flick through the buttons to confirm the 4 channels were locked and.....Doh!
it would not pick up any signal through the whole spectrum.

back to the drawing board.

I called the local Allen Ford garage tonight after calling the Ford UK helpline(they were a waste of time). The man said it was a common fault and would cost arround £40 to check and repair plus any parts required.

I would have thought by know Ford would have held up their hands and accepted the general concenus is that the radios are at best, not reliable and sorted the issue for the owners. Seems strange to me that we have the same radio problem as a lot of you guys. Are we all just unlucky Ford?

So has any of you clever bods got an answer how to tune the radio to fm and have the stations er,umm ....work!.

Does anyone know if Ford admit this is a fault with their Radio's ?

Thanks Allan

This is a common fault on these units, it affects virtually all models from this age onwards.
The tuner pack in the unit fails, causing intermittent or permanent loss of reception.

I can repair these units if anyone is interested, if so - email: cdrmicros@hotmail.com.
I am based in the uk.

Hi,

I have had the same problem on a 2002 KA - everything works fine but cannot hear any sound when in FM radio mode. RDS Stations are picked up and identified but cannot hear anything. Ford said same as above - go to dealership and have not heard of this problem before.

I have the same problem with my 2002 model. I have contacted Ford via their website. They couldn't help, but recommended I go to the dealer for advice. I have priced a new one up and it's £379. A bit steep since it seems to be a common problem with their radios. Can't be just two of us with this problem. Anyone else with the same problem, post a message here and lets forward all of them to Ford and get some action in our favour.

I've got the same problem and according to Google so have many others!
I don't think it's a faulty aerial as the radio even fails to pick up a decent signal with a wire stuck in the aerial hole and using a high powered MP3 Transmitter next to it.

However, it did a strange thing tonight. Just as I was about to give up trying to fix it, it picked up Classic FM. I retuned it, and no matter what frequency I tuned it to or which preset I selected, it displayed 'CLASSIC' and played classical music. I turned it off and on again and this time it picked up another station. Again, no matter what frequency I tuned to, it played the same station! In the ten or so times I turned it off/on, I picked up about four different stations at random. Some were strong signals, some weak.
My conclusion is that it isn't a simple aerial lead problem and the unit itself is faulty. Although the display shows the frequency you want, the radio isn't tuned to that frequency. Not much help for you, but I can't see much that can be done apart from replacement.
Perhaps it's a Ford design feature to make them pack up just out of warranty!

Mike

I have had similar issues in the past with Ford radios. If your ariel is the rubbery one that is mounted on the roof, then it could be that this has "snapped" inside the rubber and needs to be replaced. You can get these from Halfords or Ford.
