hotpoint ctd80 blows house fuse?

the machine can be switched on but as soon as i press start the circuit breaker in the house blows. i've looked at the thermistors which were both damp. one appears to have a loose cap on the top, dunno if it's related and the heater element looks to be in tact

I had this problem this morning - i did as you said, and it works!!! Brilliant guys! If i were there i'd buy you all a pint! Thanks for the advice. When i took the back cover off the heating element, there was quite a bit of water come out.
Thanks again.

YES i have had the same probelm i.e as soon as you start a program on the dryer it trips out the curcuit on the house fuse box (mbc). Our CTD80 hotpoint dryer was 16 months old when this fault occured.
I took the pressed metal cover off back the back (8 self tapping screw) which houses the heating element...guess what i saw WATER...in inside the housing near the heater elements..... I dried it out with a hair dryer ...5-10 mins ..and it works fine again !...i think it is condensation build up...which earths the elements out.
Poor design again by hotpoint
do they test thier products before marketing them ??

problem . the machine trips the house fusing , water on the foor ,
no water finding its way to the collection box,

condensing water collection design fault , (water on the floor )
this will be of use to people who have one of these machines for around 12 months ,
the machine has worked well for up until this week when water was noticed at the front of the machine ,and then a day or so
I found that water was building up in the pressed steel cover which houses the heaters on the rear of the machine, remove the cover and dry out with a hair dryer and then replace , and that was the season for the electrical trip cutting off , but the reason that the water was getting in there was in the pump enclosure which is next to heater enclosure cover it is a grey plastic box with two tabs at the bottom left corner of the rear of the machine if you pull the tabs to open the cover and then pull up the water pump you will proberly find the the water in there has fluff in it which you need to remove and then check that at the rear of the box left hand corner that the hole at the bottom is clear , it will proberly be blocked poke it clear and flush it out a few times , by removing the heat exchanger
from the front of the machine and look to the back of that compartment and you will see fluff on the back wall water drains from into the pump box , tip some clean water into it and clean up any fluff .
when you have done all that put the pump box back together . you can check all is well and the pump now sending the water back into the water collection box at the top of the machine by removing the black pump hose from the collection box and put the tube into a bottle , you can add some more water into the machine via the heat exchanger port at the very back or wait for some clothes to dry in the machine.
I hope this helps . Robb Barrett
