When I turn on my oil fired burner there is a huge amount of smoke coming from the boiler house and the chimney.I replaced the nossle and electrodes and fired the burner up while it was taken off the bolier. The burner fired ok with an orange flame.Would it be that the chimney is blocked?
There should certainly not be an orange flame. The only way to test a burner properly is to put it back into the combustion chamber, switch it on and then do a smoke test then adjustment of the the air damper then finally a flue gas analysis to fine tune everything.
Hope some of this helps

Check for blockage in the flue and make sure the boiler has been serviced. The boiler has to be setup right for the amount of air intake and oil pressure. Plus, the right nozzle and settings for the elctrodes. Have a professional look at it.
