My Whirlpool AWM328 is making a dreadful noise when the pump is emptying?

...the drum. I've opened the filter to check for foreign objects but there's nothing there. The water does drain away but the noise is getting worse.

I wondered if the pump was on its way out - any ideas?

...Just had another look. I ran the machine on a 'B' cycle (drain and spin) with the pump filter open and out popped a 5p coin.

Ding-dang-do - no more noise!!!
