how to recover pen drive showing unknown capacity???

I was installing win xp again on my computer.SO firstly I did the partitioning of space in the hard drive. But I forgot to detach my pen drive..and during partitioning we initially make unpartion space. My pendrive was also attached with the computer and so i also made the 1gb partition as unpartioned. The unpartitioned space of pendrive can be viewed separately..

Now after I installed win xp successfully..and after that i attached my pen drive with it again..then it shows in f: and when i click on it...th emessage comes : - "Please insert disc in drive F: ..and when i try to format my pen drive..then it is showing pen drive with unknown capacity...and it's unable to format it also...

Kindly help me to recover it...I would be very grateful to u..

Requirements: A "corrupt" USB thumb/flash drive, and windows vista/7.

First of all, RESTART YOUR PC...(this is the only way it worked for me...hopefully it works the same for you)

1. Plug-in your USB flash drive to USB port.

2. Open Command Prompt with admin rights. Use any of the below methods to open Command Prompt.

*Type cmd in Start menu*

3. You need to know about the USB drive a little bit. Type in the following commands in the command prompt:

>>> First type DISKPART and hit enter to see the below message. (this opens the disk-partition manager)

>>> Next type LIST DISK command and note down YOUR FLASH DRIVE'S Disk number (eg: Disk 1). BE CAREFUL NOT TO CHOOSE YOUR PRIMARY HARD-DRIVE.

4. Next type all the below commands one by one. Here I assume that your disk drive no is “Disk 1”.If you have Disk 2 as your USB flash drive then use Disk 2.Refer the above step to confirm it.
So below are the commands you need to type and execute one by one:

SELECT DISK 1

CLEAN

CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

SELECT PARTITION 1

ASSIGN

FORMAT FS=NTFS
(Format process may take few minutes)

EXIT

If you did everything exactly, then your USB drive should be goos as new.

go to any of your friend's computer and try to format the pen drive in windows and if it fails then try to format this in DOS mode, perhaps this will solve your problem.
