How can I replace my Poulan 2800 Forister chain saw's broken pull cord?

I have the replacement cord. I need detailed instructions for replacing it safely for the user, repairer, and chain saw. I have seen saws ruined by almost fixing them... :>(

I did as you suggested and my forester starts again. The chord is too short to get another full wrap. so I am careful not to start cutting until the chord is fully retracted. OH Well, cuts great again.

Hey man take the cover off of the starter assembly should be a few bolts and then take out the starter cord or tie a knot depending on how far the cord is broken
