do i add a stick of RAM?

how do i add ram to my D drive? it is 80% used up.
where and what size stick should i be looking to add?
my computer is only 6 months old, and i am getting warnings
from my security suite that i have only 20% remaining in D drive. i can see i need to take action to add space to this drive, being it is only 6 months old and almost full.
anyone with suggestions? chris w

Hi Chris - First, let me ask if you have two hard drives. I doubt it. Usually the D: drive is a partition used for restoring your computer. How much space do you have on your C: drive? You can check quickly by going to "START" "MY COMPUTER" and RIGHT-CLICK on the C: drive and select "Properties". Do the same for your D: drive. What I suspicion is that you have been downloading or adding your programs to the D: drive which is usually small. If that's true you can move those downloads/files to your C: drive. If you're not sure what you're moving get someone to help you. If you're somewhat computer savvy you can do this with Windows Explorer (START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, WINDOWS EXPLORER).

You cannot just buy a stick of memory for this problem. That's only useful in RAM (Read Only Memory) this is your hard drive or fixed disk memory - they're different. If you have problems feel free to email me and we'll see if we can walk you through them.

Hope this helps - Bruce (shopbruce@gmail.com)

You could create some space by right clicking on D: drive in My Computer and using the tool in there to free up space.

Also, if you have a lot of music and photos etc. you could look into archiving some onto CD or an external disk or something.

What you are reading as your 'D:/' drive, for all intents and purposes, is a Hard Drive or disk. It could be a completely separate hard disk to your drive C:/? Or they could both be part of the same physical drive that is merely partitioned? (Like partitioning a room to make 2 smaller rooms)
The 'Stick of RAM' you mentioned is a completely different item all together. RAM or memory is non permanent space your PC uses whilst switched on.
Your Hard disks (C,D) are permanent storage that retain data even when your PC is switched off.
Now...........back to the problem.

Your 'D:/' drive is 80% full? for a 6 month old machine this sounds a little extreme but the situation all depends on:
A) the original size of your 'D:/' drive
b) the amount of data you are actually storing on it.

Personally, I would look at this drive and remove any unwanted files first of all, before you consider potential upgrades.
Double click 'My Computer'
Double click D:/
You can now see the contents of this drive.
